Digital Piano Accessories: Bench, Headphones, Pedal & More

Gewa Klavierbank Deluxe verschiedene Farben - Musik-Ebert Gmbh

A digital piano rarely stands alone. It is the right bench, good headphones and the proper pedal that turn the instrument into a place where you enjoy playing for a long time.

This guide sorts digital piano accessories by real need: what belongs there from the start, what matters when choosing, and what can follow later.

01The essential basic setup

Three things decide playing comfort and sound: a seat at the right height, headphones for quiet practice, and a pedal that gives a natural feel. Much of the rest is nice to have, but not necessary.

We recommend starting with exactly this basic setup. A sturdy bench, decent headphones and – if not already included – a sustain pedal cover the everyday needs of beginners and advanced players alike. You will find the full overview of suitable items in our Tastenzubehör category.

02Bench: the right height, an upright posture

Seat height determines posture – and with it how relaxed your hands and shoulders stay over longer sessions. As a rule of thumb: the forearms run level with the keyboard and the elbows sit roughly at key height. If you cannot manage that, you tire faster and pick up an unfavourable technique.

For families or several players, a height-adjustable bench pays off, so that child and adult can both find the same good posture. A fixed bench is the solid, affordable choice for a single player at a matching height.

03Headphones: practise quietly without compromising on sound

The biggest advantage of a digital piano is quiet practice – and that is exactly why headphones are the most important accessory. Closed-back models seal well to the outside and disturb no one in the room; a balanced sound that is not too bass-heavy helps you tell touch dynamics apart cleanly.

Pay attention to wearing comfort over longer playing sessions and to the right plug. Many digital pianos have a 6.3 mm jack; an adapter bridges the gap to smaller plugs. You will find the full range under Kopfhörer.

04Pedal & stand

The sustain pedal holds notes after you release the key – practically indispensable for piano repertoire. Many instruments come with a simple pedal; a higher-quality one with a piano-like pressure point clearly improves control. For demanding pieces there are three-pedal units with sostenuto and una corda functions.

If you set up a portable digital piano permanently, a matching stand adds stability and a tidy look. Model-specific stands fit precisely and look all of a piece – one example is the Roland KSC-70 Ständer für FP-30 / FP-30X.

With a bench, headphones and a pedal, a digital piano is complete – everything beyond that depends on your playing style and ambitions. Starting with a coherent basic setup means playing more comfortably and for longer right from the start.

Frequently asked questions

What is the right bench height?
You are sitting correctly when your forearms run level with the keyboard and your elbows sit roughly at key height. For most adults this works out at around 48 to 52 cm seat height. If several people of different sizes play the same instrument, a height-adjustable bench is the better choice.
Open-back or closed-back headphones for a digital piano?
For practising, closed-back headphones are usually the better choice: they seal to the outside, disturb no one in the room and let you concentrate on your own sound. Open-back models sound airier and more natural, but also release sound to the outside – more suitable when others overhearing is not an issue.
Do I need a 3-pedal system?
For most players a good sustain pedal is entirely sufficient. A three-pedal unit with sostenuto and una corda only becomes truly relevant with advanced piano repertoire. If your instrument offers a matching connection, the pedal unit can also be added later.
