The NU1XA features a complex and sophisticated upright piano mechanism that transmits the delicate movements of the keys to the hammer. It responds precisely to the finest nuances and expressive intentions of the player, including delicate playing techniques such as trills and continuously repeated notes. Furthermore, the keyboard is made of wood, like an acoustic piano, which enables a solid, natural response.
Remarkably detailed expressiveness with the Yamaha Articulation Sensor System
The NU1XA features the newly developed Articulation Sensor System, which uses non-contact electromagnetic sensors and Yamaha's proprietary algorithm to precisely and continuously capture the finest nuances in the pianist's playing. This system uses two separate sensors on each key: one for the hammer—the most important part of the acoustic piano sound mechanism—and the other for the key itself, to precisely measure the release movement of the fingers and articulate the special nuances when the sound stops. Together, they capture the player's finest expressions completely.
Grand Touch pedals for an even larger playing range
The damper pedal of a grand piano responds with slightly different resistance to the player's foot, depending on when the pedal is pressed, when it begins to work, and when it is held down. Experienced players typically pedal while feeling these subtle differences in resistance, and add their own fine variations to the tone and sound. When the pedal is released, the resistance changes differently than when it was pressed. The GrandTouch™ pedals feature a pivot structure similar to that of a grand piano. They offer the same expressive and familiar feeling when depressing the pedal and expand the playing range.
Resonance that fills the performance space like a grand piano
At the moment the hammer strikes the strings, the sound is immediately audible to the performer, and at the same time, the entire instrument resonates and fills the room with magnificent sound. To faithfully reproduce this unique grand piano sound experience, the NU1XA features a new sound system. It features upward-firing woofers that resonate the entire instrument, and tweeters with a newly developed horn structure that resonate with the front and back of the instrument in the high frequencies. Combined with these synergistic resonance effects, the sound quality and sound projection give the player precise real-time control over the sound while playing. The result is a remarkably realistic, grand piano-like sound that spreads three-dimensionally throughout the performance space.

With the NU1XA, you can play the voices of the CFX, Yamaha's top-of-the-line concert grand piano and the first choice in competitions around the world, and the warm tones of the Bösendorfer Imperial grand piano on a single instrument. The new samples give the player an even fuller sound than ever before.
More than "just" the sound
The fullness of sound of the NU1XA is not based solely on great piano samples. It also utilizes unique technologies to deliver expressiveness. Grand Expression Modeling technology precisely simulates the complex interplay between player and instrument, reproducing the limitless tonal variety of a grand piano. Virtual Resonance Modeling (VRM) faithfully reproduces the extraordinarily complex resonances of a grand piano, which arise from the resonant vibrations of the strings and soundboard.
Best sound, even with headphones
By using special microphones at the player's position when recording the piano samples, binaural sampling technology effectively reproduces the sensation of hearing an acoustic piano in front of you while playing. This technology was used in both the Yamaha CFX and the Bösendorfer Imperial voices.

By incorporating graceful curves from the side arms to the legs, the NU1XA conveys timeless beauty and simultaneously radiates the elegance of an acoustic piano. New design and user interface
By incorporating graceful curves from the side arms to the legs, the NU1XA conveys timeless beauty and simultaneously radiates the elegance of an acoustic piano. The NU1XA also features a beautiful and discreet touch control panel through which you can easily operate various basic instrument functions. When not in use, the control panel automatically turns off and is visually invisible.

You can now connect via Bluetooth® to the Yamaha Smart Pianist app, making operation even easier and more intuitive. And if you just want to play along with your favorite music, you can simply send it from your smart device via Bluetooth® audio and play along.
