Piano tone and genuine touch in a slim cabinet
With the Roland FP-40 in black you get a full-size digital piano that takes up barely more space than a narrow table. Roland aims it at beginners just as much as at returning players who are rediscovering the instrument after a few years. 88 weighted keys, the Piano Reality sound engine and an uncluttered control panel put the focus back where it belongs: on the music.
Piano Reality – a living tone with depth
Piano Reality technology reproduces the response and tonal colours of an acoustic piano in fine detail, from the gentlest touch to a full fortissimo. The speaker system developed specifically for the FP-40 uses two 8 x 12 cm drivers in a dedicated speaker box with 2 x 12 watts of power, giving a clear sound with noticeably more body in the lower register. 256-note polyphony keeps dense pedal passages clean, and 305 tones range from concert grand to organ with rotary effect: 40 of them are selected directly on the instrument, another 265 through the Roland Piano App. Ambience in 11 steps and Brilliance in 21 steps tailor the sound to your room and your taste.
PHA-4 Standard – weighted keyboard with triple-sensor detection
The PHA-4 Standard keyboard offers a weighted hammer action with escapement, the subtle notch you know from an acoustic piano. The key surfaces have an ivory feel finish that gives your fingers a natural, pleasant hold. Triple-sensor detection tracks every key movement precisely enough for fast note repetition and fine dynamic shading. Five touch sensitivity settings plus a fixed option adapt the keyboard to your playing. Twin Piano splits the keyboard into two identical halves, which is handy when two people work at the instrument, while Dual and Split layer or divide two sounds.
Connections for apps, headphones and recording
Bluetooth 5.4 transmits audio and MIDI wirelessly, and the USB-C port connects your smartphone or tablet by cable. USB-C carries MIDI and audio over a single cable and charges USB PD compatible phones at the same time. The USB-A port plays WAV and MP3 files as well as Standard MIDI Files from a USB flash drive, and the internal recorder captures your own ideas as a MIDI file. The L/Mono and R jack outputs feed an amplifier or mixer, and the headphone and headset jack lets you play quietly or record videos and streams with a headset microphone. Two pedal jacks are provided: one for a damper pedal with continuous detection, one for a pedal unit with damper, sostenuto and soft. The Piano Sphere app, developed together with Skoove, adds lessons, feedback and practice streaks, and the Roland Piano App opens Piano Designer for fine-tuning the sound.
